Our ideal candidate has

  • 7+ years of software experience at a startup or technology focused company

  • 4+ years of managing and mentoring of engineers of all experience levels

  • 2+ years of experience as a Director of Engineering or equivalent role

  • Strong expertise and talent in wielding full-stack Javascript

  • Strong expertise in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes

  • Strong expertise in defining engineering team metrics

  • Expertise in service architecture

  • Privacy and Security focused mindset and practices

Bonus points for

  • Expertise with Agile methodology

  • Expertise with Accounting or Investment management software

  • Expertise with Mobile development

What you'll be doing

  • Will be responsible for the managing and continuous career development of the engineering and QA team. The role will also include 10-20% of time focused on individual contributions.

  • Code review of all significant front end and back end modifications

  • Coordination with CTO and VP of Tech Ops on major architectural changes and planning

  • Contributing to product teams within normal release cycle

  • Monitoring industry developments and determining impact and implementation within our platform

  • Growing future leaders by serving as a mentor to junior staff, helping them develop both technically and in their role

  • Will drive incremental value through iteration of processes, frameworks and ideas

  • Practicing constant vigilance with respect to security and privacy

  • Grow engineering teams as needed, including hire, promote, and mentor leads

Expectations in first six months

  • Command leadership of the team with the team's trust in you and ability to help team members develop professionally.Provide objective recommendations that demonstrate technical and business understanding.

  • Performance of the API is improved to < 0.5 second latency for common non-trivial read operations.

  • Shorten Release cycle from 4 weeks to 2 weeks. This implies:

  • Oversee automated testing and unit test coverage

  • Ensure high quality code

  • Enable quick builds and easy rollbacks

  • Establish sound, repeatable coding standards for:

  • Layout and UX techniques

  • Client side state management

  • Component libraries with right level of abstraction and configuration

  • Appropriate use of API’s , pagination

  • Caching

  • Appropriate use of Node (patterns, anti-patterns)

  • Efficient SQL

  • Multi-tenant architecture designed to complement current single tenant offering

  • API is improved to allow for easy integrations to third party software.
